Individual Therapy
A personalized approach integrating evidenced based treatments
As a provider trained in several modalities, I draw on each of these treatments based on what I believe would be most helpful for your situation, symptoms, and diagnosis. I will check-in with you often throughout the therapy process to ensure that you are satisfied with the tools you receive, and also to incorporate different strategies if needed. YOU are the expert on YOU! I am here to collaborate and support throughout the time we work together.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment that combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness strategies. It was originally developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD) but is now widely used for various mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and substance use disorders.
DBT focuses on balancing acceptance and change, helping individuals develop skills in four key areas:
Mindfulness – Increasing awareness and presence in the moment.
Distress Tolerance – Building resilience to handle crises without harmful reactions.
Emotion Regulation – Understanding and managing intense emotions effectively.
Interpersonal Effectiveness – Improving communication and relationship skills.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based, goal-oriented psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. It is widely used to treat anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, and other mental health conditions.
CBT operates on the idea that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. By challenging distorted thinking and adopting healthier coping strategies, individuals can improve emotional regulation and overall well-being.
Core components of CBT include:
Cognitive Restructuring – Identifying and challenging negative or irrational thoughts.
Behavioral Activation – Encouraging positive actions to improve mood and reduce avoidance.
Exposure Therapy – Gradually confronting fears in a controlled way (used for anxiety-related disorders).
Problem-Solving – Developing practical skills to handle life’s challenges effectively.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a client-centered, evidence-based therapy designed to enhance motivation for change. It is commonly used in addiction treatment, health behavior change, and mental health settings.
MI helps individuals resolve ambivalence about change by exploring their own values, goals, and reasons for making positive changes. Instead of pushing or persuading, therapists use a collaborative and empathetic approach to guide clients toward self-motivated change.
Core principles of MI include:
Expressing Empathy – Creating a non-judgmental, supportive environment.
Developing Discrepancy – Helping clients recognize the gap between their current behavior and their personal goals.
Rolling with Resistance – Avoiding direct confrontation and instead guiding clients through ambivalence.
Supporting Self-Efficacy – Encouraging belief in one’s ability to change.
MI is often used alongside other therapies and is effective for individuals who feel uncertain or unready to make changes.
